Brian Phillips serves as the Senior Program Coordinator for the Rutgers Future Scholars Program under the Office of Civic Engagement at Rutgers-Camden. In partnership with Aramis Gutierrez (Director) and Dr. Nyeema Watson (Associate Chancellor of Civic Engagement) Brian oversees the robust program where over 300 middle and high school students and their families are positively impacted through year-round programming. His staff, comprised of 25 college students and the Program Coordinator I makes this work possible.

Brian Phillips is a proud product of Camden, New Jersey. As a professional, he has dedicated his life to aiding Camden by educating and uplifting its youth and families. Early in his life, Brian noticed the crippling disparities that plagued his beloved city so he decided to help transform it by helping individuals realize their potential to become self-reliant, self-motivated, and most importantly, more civically engaged.

Brian attended Rutgers University-New Brunswick, N.J. where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies with a Minor in Teaching Science Education. Brian returned home to Camden, N.J. and began his professional career at his former high school. There he served as a coach for the Boys Basketball and Baseball Teams from 2010 until 2016 and ended his tenure as a College Access Coordinator.

Brian is currently pursuing his Master’s in Public Affairs/Community Development at Rutgers University-Camden. Brian is committed to the holistic growth of Camden youth and families. He empowers students and families by creating pathways for them to pursue their passions, by providing professional and personal growth outcomes, and by using daily dilemmas as teachable moments. Brian is truly committed to the growth of Camden, its youth, and its families.
